Choosing a clinical affiliation site can be difficult. Our goal is to create an exceptional affiliation experience for you. Here?s a sample of what you can expect during your time at Jamaica PT.
Our Clinical Instructors.
The majority of our clinicians have been through extensive training and have become APTA members. Our CIs will provide you with the highest quality, hands-on learning experience through all the aspects of outpatient rehabilitation. We not only provide practicum experience, but we also go above and beyond by offering access to surgical observations, clinicians’ shadowing, and continuing education opportunities, such as clinicians’ lectures and clinical in-services.
Our process
If we receive your information from your school, we will contact you one month before your affiliation starts to welcome you to the team. That?s when you?ll be given your schedule, your CI, and any specific information or expectations for your rotation. Of course, you?re always welcome to call the facility. You can even arrange a time to drop by the office, if you like. Otherwise, we?ll be ready for you on your first day.
Our expectations
We have a very high standard of ethics, professionalism, and continuing education. And we expect the same from our students. This means doing the right thing, all the time. Being on time and ready to address patients prior to their scheduled appointment. Regular attendance at both internal and external educational opportunities. Professional dress. Professional attitude. Simply put ? a commitment to our profession.
Requirements
Prior to the start of your clinical affiliation, we expect that you will have reviewed all of your anatomy, goniometric measurements, manual muscle testing, and any special tests you have been exposed to. Also, we ask you to review all basic modalities (hot packs, cold packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, etc.) to be able to provide a sound rationale for your clinical decision making, and safely implement each when necessary.
You will be given an orientation to our machines during your first week, because every machine operates slightly different. Your caseloads will vary by location, but you can expect to be eased into a clinical treatment schedule with the appropriate guidance and supervision for your level of knowledge and experience.
In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you?ll be expected to fulfill the following:
- One in-service or project at your CI or CCCE?s discretion
- Minimum of two chart audits (guidance provided)
- Outside research on topics or diagnoses you are treating (a requirement of all therapists in clinical practice)
If you have any questions, please don?t hesitate to contact our office. You can email us at info@jamaicapt.com, or call (718) 297-3699.
